President Trump calls for resignation of Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan

Intel's never-ending woes are getting worse with each passing day. An earlier report from Reuters implied it was still struggling with its 18A yields, resulting in low profitability for Panther Lake CPUs. Now, President Donald Trump has escalated matters even further via a new post on Truth Social, which says:

The CEO of INTEL is highly CONFLICTED and must resign, immediately. There is no other solution to this problem. Thank you for your attention to this problem!

It comes shortly after US Senator Tom Cotton expressed concern about Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan's apparent Chinese connections. Senator Cotton alleges Mr Tan "controls dozens of Chinese companies and has a stake in hundreds of Chinese advanced-manufacturing and chip firms" and has sought a reply from Intel by August 15. Intel hasn't issued an official statement about the situation, but one should be coming soon, especially with the deadline looming.

If Lip-Bu Tan resigns or is outed, it will be the second CEO to exit the company in the span of a year after Pat Gelsinger stepped down in December 2024.That said, the situation isn't all gloomy. It could get a much-needed cash injection from TSMC in lieu of lower tariffs. But the deal hasn't been finalised yet or even officially confirmed by either party. Then there are murmurs about other candidates lining up for an Intel acquisition. However, they largely appear to be hearsay and should be treated as such until proven otherwise.
