At first glance, the Humbird 3 looks like a regular docking station with a solid selection of ports, but it offers some features that hardly any competing product can match. This starts with the port selection, as the dock sports three USB-C ports, all of which support Thunderbolt 5 with a bandwidth of up to 120Gbps.
The TB5 dock also includes two USB-A ports (10Gbps), Ethernet (5Gbps), DisplayPort 2.1 with support for an 8K monitor at a refresh rate of 60Hz, an SD and a microSD card reader, as well as an M.2 slot that can be used to expand the dock with an SSD. Charging coils are hidden inside the part of the dock that features a wooden look, and they can wirelessly charge smartphones and also an Apple Watch (from $229 on Amazon).
Connected laptops can charge at up to 100 watts, while a 1-inch display shows the dock's current status. The most unusual feature is arguably the hidden PCIe slot under the cover on the top that allows the user to connect a regular desktop GPU in conjunction with a 500-watt PSU. The graphics card connects via PCIe 4.0 x4.
Price and availability
The Humbird 3 TB5 docking station was successfully crowdfunded but remains available for purchase through the Kickstarter campaign. As part of the campaign, the eGPU dock costs around $322 plus shipping, import fees and taxes. Deliveries should arrive in November 2025. As is usual, it may be clever to wait for independent reviews, as crowdfunding campaigns always carry the risk of receiving an inferior product or no device at all.
