Xbox Game Pass subscribers can enjoy the action platformer Nine Sols and the real-time strategy game Aliens: Dark Descent this week. We reveal what players can expect from the two games.
Nine Sols (Cloud, PC and Xbox Series X|S) - November 26th
This 2D action platformer from Red Candle Games blends Asian mythology with a futuristic sci-fi setting. Players step into the role of Yi, a legendary hero from the past, revived by a human child. The mission is to overthrow the nine Sols, the mighty rulers of the forsaken realm of New Kunlun, while unraveling the mysteries of an ancient alien civilization.
Nine Sols features a skill-based combat system where mastering enemy attack patterns, timing precise parries, and seamlessly balancing offense with defense are key to success. Released on Steam in May 2024, the action platformer is priced at approximately $30 and enjoys widespread acclaim, boasting a 95 percent positive rating from over 13,000 reviews. Starting November 26, the game will also be available on Game Pass.
Aliens: Dark Descent (Cloud, PC, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One) - November 27th
Aliens: Dark Descent is a tactical real-time strategy game set in a tense, alien-infested universe. Players command an elite squad of Colonial Marines stranded on a deserted colony, tasked with surviving, exploring, and eradicating the Xenomorph threat. The squad, limited to five marines at a time, requires careful management - assigning roles strategically and using resources wisely is crucial. Every decision matters, as losses are permanent and can significantly impact the mission’s outcome.
Developed by Tindalos Interactive and published by Focus Entertainment in June 2023, Aliens: Dark Descent is priced at around $40 on Steam, where it holds solid 88 percent positive ratings from approximately 11,500 reviews. On Metacritic, however, the real-time strategy game has a more mixed reception, with a Metascore of 75 and a User Score of 8.1. Critics have pointed to technical issues, repetitive mission design, and a lackluster story as its main drawbacks. Despite these flaws, fans of the Alien franchise or real-time strategy games might find the game worth exploring when it becomes available on November 27.
