This new retro-inspired boombox brings 270 W output, USB recording and fan-cooled amplifier

Bumpboxx is a fairly fresh California-based audio brand. Founded in 2016, it has built its identity around oversized, retro-inspired speakers at a time when most of the industry and user-base is zeroed in on compact wireless designs (like the JBL Go 4 - currently $50 on Amazon). The company’s products often have a vintage 1980s vibe. The new BB-777 follows that same direction, but comes with support for legacy playback formats alongside modern connectivity options in the same system.
The BB-777 is a new portable system that combines multiple playback formats into one unit. It supports cassette, CD, radio, USB, and Bluetooth, which eliminates the need for separate devices should you choose to carry this around.
Key specs and hardware
The BB-777 delivers up to 270 W through a multi-driver setup. It includes two 6.25-inch woofers, two coaxial speakers for mid-range, and two horn tweeters. The entire enclosure uses internal chambers and bass ports, and the amplifier is fan-cooled for stability if you're planning to use it for a long duration.
Playback options include Bluetooth with TWS pairing, USB audio support (MP3, WMA, WAV, FLAC, AAC), and a CD mechanism compatible with CD, CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3 discs. It also features dual cassette decks with recording and high-speed dubbing, along with AM, FM, and shortwave radio.
Plus, the system can record directly to USB from cassette, CD, or radio sources, implying you should be able digitize your physical media with ease. There are two wired microphone inputs with volume and echo control, built-in microphones, and a headphone output.
The unit uses a 97.6Wh lithium-ion battery rated for up to 15 hours of playback. It supports interchangeable battery packs and takes around 4-6 hours to recharge. The BB-777 isn't exactly subtle - at 29.6 × 6.5 × 15 inches and 12.7 kg, users should expect it to have presence. The design includes a dot matrix display, removable front grilles, telescoping antennas, and a shoulder strap.
Devices that support cassette, CD, and radio alongside Bluetooth are now pretty uncommon. Most modern speakers focus on wireless playback only, which makes multi-format systems like this relatively niche. It will be available through a Kickstarter campaign - if you put down a deposit of $10 before launch, you pay $649 for the BB-777 at launch.

Founder Story & Brand Legacy
Bumpboxx was founded in 2016 with a simple belief: music is meant to be shared out loud. Inspired by the energy of 1980s boombox culture and the communal spirit of breakdance and street sound systems, the brand was built as a response to the growing shift toward private, headphone-based listening.
Over the past decade, Bumpboxx established itself by creating modern portable systems that celebrated scale, presence, and physicality.
Yet as the company approached its tenth anniversary, the team set out to build something more ambitious, a definitive statement piece that honored the golden era of boombox design while meeting contemporary expectations for reliability, battery freedom, and format versatility.
The result is the BB-777.
Developed over nearly three years, the project required significant engineering investment and a commitment to reviving mechanical formats rarely seen in modern audio hardware. Dual cassette decks, a CD mechanism, full-scale acoustic architecture, and modern battery integration were not added for nostalgia alone, but to create a fully functional, all-format system designed for long-term ownership and for those who still have music collections across legacy formats and want to bring them back into active rotation.
For Bumpboxx, the BB-777 represents more than a product release. It marks a decade of persistence, cultural continuity, and belief in the power of physical sound.
