This business laptop is enterprise through and through on paper – and a compromise in reality?

With the Connect 15, Schenker is clearly targeting business customers – and loads the classic 15-inch notebook with an unusual amount of hardware. Wi-Fi 7, an LTE option, and SmartCard support sound like modern enterprise-grade specifications. However, the test also reveals the downsides of this feature-heavy machine.

Features: Wi-Fi 7, LTE, SmartCard & security features at a glance

In our review, the new Schenker Connect 15 impressed with its extensive feature set and security capabilities. SmartCard support, a replaceable battery, fast Wi-Fi 7, LAN, and an LTE option are features not commonly found together in many laptops. On top of that, there is an optional Secured-Core PC Level 3 configuration available for an additional €29.

Combined with the SmartCard reader, fingerprint sensor, and the aforementioned Secured-Core setup, the laptop is clearly positioned as an especially compelling option for enterprise use. Wi-Fi 7 and the LTE option further reinforce this positioning.

Chassis & weight: Enterprise features meet a heavy plastic design

However, the Connect 15 shows weaknesses in other areas that could dampen enthusiasm. And this isn’t about its modest 3D performance, but rather its chassis.

While it looks simple and black at first glance, the Connect does not come across as a particularly modern business laptop in terms of design. It also weighs in at 1.9 kg, which is relatively heavy. As competitors continue to get thinner and lighter, the Connect 15 stands out as a bulkier option in the business segment, which may deter some users when it comes to mobility.

Of course, these dimensions are partly the result of its extensive feature set. A SmartCard reader requires space, as do a LAN port, an LTE module, an SD card reader, and similar components. Other business laptops cut back on ports and features to stay slimmer, while some competitors pair thin chassis designs with premium metal materials. The Connect, by contrast, is made entirely of plastic – there are more visually refined business laptops on the market.

Features vs. mobility and design

Ultimately, it comes down to priorities and individual requirements. The Connect 15 may not be the most elegant, attractive, thinnest, or lightest business laptop, but its extensive feature set could easily outweigh these drawbacks for many companies.
