Square Enix's HD-2D turn-based RPG Octopath Traveler II is seeing one of its steepest official Steam discounts in two years. The 2023 sequel is currently 60% off as part of the ongoing Octopath Traveler Franchise Sale, dropping from its standard $59.99 to $23.99. SteamDB's price history graph flags this as the game's two-year low on the platform, and the sale is scheduled to run through August 12, 2026.

Octopath Traveler II launched on February 24, 2023. It has been developed by Square Enix and Acquire Corp on Unreal Engine tech. It's the second mainline entry in a series that began in 2018 with the original Octopath Traveler, which sold more than 3 million copies worldwide. The sequel sticks to the same HD-2D visual style (a mix of retro pixel art and 3D environments) following a new cast of eight travelers across the continent of Solistia.

Reception has also aged quite well: the game currently has nearly 93% positive ratings across almost 17,000 Steam user reviews, putting it in "Very Positive" territory. Player activity tells a slightly different story — SteamDB shows around 1,500 people playing at the time of writing, with a 24-hour peak of 1,597. That's a drop from the all-time peak of 17,008 concurrent players recorded around launch, though a steady base more than three years later isn't nothing for a single-player JRPG.

Please note that some third-party key resale trackers have historical lows well under Steam's current price — one recorded $9.68 in June 2026 — but that's grey-market reselling, not an official Square Enix or Steam price. On Steam itself, 60% off is the biggest discount the game has seen.

Those without either game can also grab the Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler II bundle, discounted separately during the same event. At $23.99, it's a great pickup for anyone who skipped this at launch.
