The Xperia 1 II has been around for a few months now, albeit Sony announced the smartphone way back in February. To recap, the Xperia 1 II comes with a Snapdragon 865 SoC, a 6.5-inch OLED screen and 8 GB of RAM. The device also has a 4,000 mAh battery and comes in the choice of three colours. The purple and white models are hard to come across, but the black edition is available to purchase in multiple markets.
However, Sony has now announced a fourth colour, and it comes with 12 GB of RAM. The new model will be available from October 30, but only in Japan for the time being. Sony Japan will sell the 12 GB edition for JPY 124,000, which equates to US$1,172 at current exchange rates.
Arguably, the highlight of the new model is its Frost Black finish. Engadget Japan has got its hands on a model and has kindly published photos of it compared to the regular black edition. The difference between the two models is stark and the matte finish of the Frost Black version should all but eliminate fingerprints. Engadget Japan adds that Sony has milled its logo into the back of the phone too, which is a nice touch. Overall, we hope that the Frost Black edition of the Xperia 1 II comes to more markets.
