The Redmi Watch is a square-faced smartwatch rated for up to 9 days' worth of battery life, has built-in GPS and GLONASS and 11 workout modes. Xiaomi has launched it as the Mi Watch Lite on its global website; however, in a slightly confusing twist, it seems the OEM intends to release it under its original name in India.
One of its model numbers (REDMIWT02) has been submitted by Redmi, not Xiaomi, for certification by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), as reported by the leaker Mukul Sharma. This suggests the wearable will launch as the first brand's Watch in that country. As it sells in China (under the same name) for about US$45, it might make a decent budget smartwatch option in its putative new market.
On the other hand, Indian consumers might be advised to hold off to see whether the Realme Watch 2 will also launch soon. This upcoming product has been FCC-registered as having the exact same screen specs as the Redmi Watch/Mi Watch Lite - however, the newer model has a blood-oxygen sensor, whereas the Xiaomi device only has heart-rate and sleep tracking.
Then again, the extra spec might make Realme's second-gen square Watch more expensive on its launch, whereas the Mi Watch Lite is technically a wearable of yesteryear at this point. Then again, it is actually available on platforms such as Amazon (for US$70 at present) now.
