Firmware files of an unnamed Huawei flagship device, which we expect to be the Huawei P11, has revealed details pointing towards the presence of a notch at the top of the display, much like what we've seen on the Essential PH-1 and iPhone X.

Huawei released the Mate 10 devices a few months ago, which means we're about set for the emergence of the next Huawei flagship in a few months. This device, the Huawei P11, has been in the headlines of recent. Only yesterday, there was a report that the flagship would feature a sparkling tri rear camera setup and a 24 MP selfie shooter, which would be something novel in the market. Today, however, according to our friends over at XDA-Developers, the P11 may also adopt the same notch seen on both the Essential PH-1 and the iPhone X.

According to the XDA report, the source of the information is a firmware file for an unnamed Huawei device. The firmware file has references to an overlay image that looks exactly like the iPhone X's notch, and a config file that indicates a "RoundCornerDisplay". The listed display information also points towards a 6.01-inch Samsung LCD display, with a line indicating a 2244×1080 resolution, which sounds exactly like what a device with extra space at the top would have (the extra vertical 84px is the space taken by the notch at the top).

While the device itself isn't confirmed, details in the firmware file also show that it will be powered by the Kirin 970, and will run on EMUI 8.0.1, which is a newer version of the EMUI 8.0 seen on Huawei flagships like the Mate 10 and the Honor V10. The presence of system apks related to Huawei's new Easy Projection further confirm the chances that this is a Huawei flagship. Unless Huawei surprises us with an entirely new flagship device, that leaves us with either the P11 or the Honor 10 but the Honor 10 isn't likely to ship with a 6-inch display, so that makes the P11 the likeliest candidate.

The notch itself has gotten a conflicting reception, as most consider it to be unneeded and, perhaps, even nonsensical, but that's left for potential buyers to judge.
