Tesla prices Cybertruck FSD option at $7,000 on the Foundation Series trims but it won't be active
The full list of features and options that Tesla packages together with the dual-motor or tri-motor Cybertruck Foundation Series edition has now appeared. They come courtesy of those early reservation holders who got an invitation to buy one of the exclusive pickups and have shared the complete set of options in the order configurator.
Tesla Cybertruck FSD price
First things first, Tesla lists the "Full Self-Driving capability" that for now seems to be available only for the Foundation Series Cybertrucks with a price of $7,000. That's way lower than the $12,000 that Tesla charges on its other models right now, but it seems to be honoring the FSD price tag as it was when early reservation holders plunked down cash for a place in the queue.
After making Full Self-Driving Beta available for general purchase to select owners in April 2019 for $5,000, Tesla bumped its price to $7.000 in August that same year. This means that Tesla is now honoring the FSD price valid at the time of the first Cybertruck reservations, or at least that's how much it values the Foundation Series FSD option at right now.
Cybertruck FSD availability
Unfortunately, it doesn't seem that Full Self-Driving Beta will be available on the Cybertruck at launch, even on the Foundation Series models that are the only ones where Tesla mentions FSD as an option at all. Even on them, however, Tesla will release FSD for the Cybertruck at a later date, as it warns that "these features will be available in an upcoming over-the-air software update."
This jives with Elon Musk's revelation that Tesla will first put all of its software efforts towards making the FSD V12 update work on older Hardware 3.0 models, and then focus on HW4 vehicles like the Cybertruck that are few and far between. For Cybertruck Foundation Series owners, this could mean a significant wait before they can enjoy autonomous driving.
Foundation Series order configurator options
As for the other Foundation Series options that haven't been disclosed so far, the list shows that the white interior seen in the Top Gear Cybertruck review will be standard for both the dual-motor and the Cyberbeast trims. The tri-motor edition, however, will also get the off-road light bar accessory that sits on top of the windshield and illuminates the road ahead.
All in all, if Tesla is pricing FSD at $7,000 for the Cybertruck, all of these extras combined are perhaps worth about the $20,000 premium that it charges for the exclusive edition anyway. The laser-etched Foundation Series badging and cabin marking, however, add a dollop of intangible value for those early reservation holders who decide to pull the trigger on one.
It’s Happening ???? but when do the 79,990 happen? ???? 73,000 vs 100k it’s a a big 27k difference ???? don’t get me wrong. I’m honored and happy. And may pull the trigger. But that’s Beast mode value (non founder addition) pic.twitter.com/OTq4AnFJWz
