Tesla has a surprise Easter egg in store for early Cybertruck reservation holders and it's not the little punk hedgehog that appears in the driver's seat if you linger on the pickup's website long enough.
Rather, it is a special Foundation Series Cybertruck model with the respective laser engravings and a ton of options which is the most expensive Cybertruck trim so far.
Foundation Series Cybertruck price and release date
- $120,000
Those who shared their Cybertruck Foundation Series offer showed that it is priced at $119,990 before Tesla's inevitable "gas savings" blurb, which is quite a bit higher than the heretofore top Cyberbeast trim which carries a $99,990 tag.
Needless to say, the Cybertruck Foundation Series won't qualify for any federal subsidies, either, as it is priced way above the $80,000 eligibility threshold. Tesla says that the Foundation Series is already shipping to select customers in California and Texas, with availability in other states coming in 2024.
Cybertruck FSD and Foundation Series options
- Full Self-Driving Beta
- Laser-etched Foundation Series badging
- Universal Wall Connector
- Powershare Mobile Connector
- Powershare Home Backup
- Premium accessories
- All-terrain tires
- Lifetime Premium Connectivity
Tesla finally put Cybertruck and Full Self-Driving Beta in one sentence when gushing about the options that will be available to the Foundation Series Cybertruck buyers in exchange for those extra $20,000 on top of the Cyberbeast price.
Besides a "fully optioned" Cyberbeast, the Foundation Series orders include the laser-etched marking that can be seen in the pictures here to separate it from the rest of the Cybertruck buying crowd. Tesla has also loaded the Foundation Series Cybertruck with "premium accessories," whatever that entails, and charging gear with Powershare home backup equipment to take advantage of the reverse charging abilities on Tesla's first electric pickup.
Buyers will also get all-terrain tires and more, but the most interesting option that Tesla lists for the Foundation Series Cybertruck is "Full Self-Driving capability." So far, Tesla has only mentioned Autopilot as available on the Cybertruck in connection with the windshield cameras on the overhead console, and that's that.
Elon Musk also tipped that running the next big FSD update on the Cybertruck's HW4 autonomous driving kit will be an afterthought until Tesla makes it run well on Hardware 3.0 vehicles. Hopefully, all of this doesn't mean that the Foundation Series Cybertruck FSD option will be included in the $120,000 price, but operational at a much later date.
