The AWD Cybertruck will be able to hit 470+ miles of range with an available extender, closing in on Tesla's promised 500-mile version. The Cybertruck also has a Powershare function for your home, as well as 110V/240V bed outlets for running tools.

Tesla has found an ingenious way to deliver on its promise for a Cybertruck version with "up to 500 miles of range" that it has been teasing for the last four years or so.

Cybertruck range extender

Instead of actually making one, it will offer a Cybertruck "range extender" accessory, a spare battery that Elon Musk says is an "optional pack that fits in about 1/3 of the truck bed" that is "meant for very long trips or towing heavy things up mountains," but there will still leave room "for plenty of of cargo" in the bed.

The Cybertruck's extender battery will allow the dual-motor AWD version to hit 470+ miles of range. The tri-motor Cyberbeast will be able to cover 440+ miles on charge with said extender, too.

Mum's the word on the Cybertruck range extender price and availability, but there are tips it would cost US$16,000 and we should know soon as the delivery date of the first two trims available - the dual- and tri-motor - is in 2024.

Cybertruck Powershare and charging speeds

The Cybertruck is Tesla's first vehicle with modern 48V low-voltage system, and fast charging at a 250kW Level 3 Supercharger will be able to restore 136 miles of range in 15 minutes, says Tesla, while the Cybertruck offers modern 800V power architecture as well.

Tesla's Powershare reverse charging function will be available on the Cybertruck as well, ready to power tools, phones, homes, and even other electric cars.

Tesla brags that it can "power your home during an outage for over three days, with zero noise and emissions and 11.5 kW of continuous capability," indicating quite an ample Cybertruck battery capacity.

Cybertruck 110V/240V power outlets

  • 2 x 120V cabin outlets (up to 20A)
  • 2 x 120V cargo bed outlets (up to 20A)
  • 1 x 240V cargo bed outlet (up to 40A)

There don't seem to be any substantial Cybertruck frunk outlet game, despite that the thing is actually called the Powergate, but the truck bed is home to no less than three of those, including one 240V outlet.

The rest of the five Cybertruck power outlets are located in the cabin, with one 120V plug at the front, and another at the back.

Tesla says that more 120V or 240V outlets can be added with Powershare Mobile Connector and Outlet Adapters (up to 32A), while the power distribution can be controlled from the cabin with the "Outlets and Mods" setting.

The maximum continuous real power that those Cybertruck outlets can deliver is 9.6 kW, while the inside of the cabin also offers comfy wireless charging for passenger phones, as well as 65W USB-C ports for charging laptops and the like.
