Cybertruck Powergate frunk offers 50% of the F-150 Lightning storage capacity but a bench for two and longest LED lighting
Tesla is giving the first media tour of the Cybertruck production facility at Giga Texas prior to its delivery event today and one of the stops reveals the name of the front storage compartment. Yes, Tesla's first powered frunk has a name and it is called Powergate.
According to the signage, the Cybertruck's Powergate frunk offers more than seven cubic feet of storage capacity and "reveals a hidden bench for two." Tesla's design chief said that the hood is deliberately designed so that those using the Powergate as a bench can sit comfortably underneath it. Cybertuck review videos have also tested it with two pieces of overhead luggage, and they seem to fit while laying down.
The Powergate offers half of the Ford F-150 Lightning's 14 cubic feet frunk storage capacity, but then again the Cybertruck's front is much shorter, too, with the rest of the pickup's length going to the truck bed and the cabin. To compensate, Tesla's frunk offers "one of the longest LED lighting elements on a passenger vehicle," referring to the light bar at the front.
The storage compartment of the Cybertruck's bed is also on display, and it seems to be of a regular size for its category of pickups.
Unfortunately, the sort of frunk power outlets and other accessories that were expected prior to launch seem reserved for the truck bed and cabin, but the speculation whether it will be a powered frunk with automatic opening and closing from the cabin has finally been resolved.
