Games having a similar theme isn't unusual. Take for example Mario Kart and the several clones that it has inspired
over the years including more recent ones such as Nickelodeon Kart Racers, Disney Speedstorm, and Lego 2K Drive. However, there are times where a game can be called a rip-off, and that somewhat seems to be the case with Light of Motiram, an upcoming open-world survival crafting game similar to Sony's Horizon Zero Dawn.
The announcement trailer for the game reveals it is set in a world with mechanical beasts called Mechanimals
, similar to those in Horizon Zero Dawn. It also reveals the protagonist who has a (flying) robot companion akin to BD-1 in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
Developed and published by Polaris Quest, a subsidiary of Tencent, Light of Motiram tries to differ from Horizon Zero Dawn in a number of ways. First, the game places a focus on crafting with players required to design and construct a base using materials such as wood and bricks.
They will also be able to tame, train, and customize dozens of Mechanimals that can assist in combat or production. Furthermore, Light of Motiram has a multiplayer mode that allows players to form a team of up to 10 players to face enemies, hunt beasts, and find resources.
Light of Motiram will be available on PC via Steam and the Epic Game store. It has also been revealed it will be available on PS5, Android, and iOS and will have support for cross-platform progression. There's no specific release date yet but it has been reported that the game is set for 2025.
Following the announcement of Light of Motiram, Sony hasn't released a statement about the game. It remains to be seen if it will file a lawsuit against the developers, just as Nintendo has done with the developers of the Palworld, the Pokémon-like game.
