Tecno launches entry-level Pop 9 5G smartphone to take on Redmi A4 5G
Transsion Holding’s sub-brand Tecno has expanded its budget-range smartphone portfolio by launching a new Pop 9 5G smartphone. Following its African debut, the company’s latest entry-level smartphone is now officially available in India. Tecno packs a decent set of features into the Pop 9 5G smartphone.
The Pop 9 5G boasts a 6.67-inch LCD display with 1600 x 720p resolution and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. It does have an IP54 dust and water resistance rating and supports NFC. The rear camera module design of the smartphone is very similar to the newly launched iPhone 16. It features a 48 MP Sony IMX582 primary camera, which is complemented by a secondary AI sensor and a flashlight placed next to the camera module.
The entry-level smartphone features a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor based on the 6-nm manufacturing process. The main chipset is paired with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB or 128 GB of storage, which is further expandable via microSD card. The front has an 8 MP punch-hole camera for selfies and video chats.
Under the hood, it has a 5,000 mAh battery with support for 18 W wired charging. The device runs on Android 14-based HiOS 14 UI out of the box. However, there’s no word on software from the brand, indicating newer Android updates may never arrive. Other features include an IR blaster, dual speakers with Dolby Atmos support, and 5G connectivity. Dimension-wise, the device measures 165 x 80 x 7.7 mm and weighs 189 grams.
The Tecno Pop 9 5G starts at INR 9,499 (roughly $112) for the base 4 GB + 64 GB model, and the 4 GB + 128 GB variant is priced at INR 9,999 (roughly $118). Tecno offers three color options for the Pop 9 5G: Midnight Shadow, Azure Sky, and Aurora Cloud. You can now buy the smartphone via Amazon in India.
