We reported on TRMNL last year; the device is now available directly from the manufacturer. The default variant comes in three colors - black, white or clear - for $139, while the limited edition - available in sage, gray or wood - costs $154. Customers can choose a number of add-ons, ranging from a 'Clarity Kit', 'Battery Upgrade', 'Developer Edition' and 'Charging Cable', all of which might be useful to certain buyers. Shipping costs are added upon checkout.
The TRMNL display is not intended for use with a PC or notebook, but rather as a smart display for use around the home and to display various kinds of information. For example, it could display the weather, to-do lists or data from sources such as Google Analytics. Numerous plugins are available, including the possibility of displaying photos stored in cloud storage. The display can also be configured to change functions at certain times.
The model itself measures 171 x 116 x 10 millimeters, while the E Ink display itself measures 7.5 inches diagonally and has a resolution of 800 x 480, which is not a particularly high resolution compared to typical e-readers. A battery life of up to three months is advertised and data is transferred via WiFi, which means that no cable connection is necessary. Compared to conventional smart displays, the power consumption is significantly lower, but the display of colors is not possible.
