Aside from the RTX 4060 laptop GPU, the Lenovo LOQ 15 Gen 9 on sale is practically identical to the Gen 10 models. Both models feature the same durable plastic chassis, the same port selection, and the same display. So, the only perceivable difference is the inclusion of the RTX 4060 instead of the RTX 5050.
We gave the Lenovo LOQ 15 (Intel, Gen 9) a “good” rating of 79% in our review, noting that the laptop is a solid budget gamer with only a few minor flaws. So, before we discuss the qualities of the laptop, let’s look at the flaws of the notebook.
For starters, the Lenovo LOQ 15 Gen 9 can get loud under load. This loud fan behavior makes sense, however, as the machine gets rather warm when pushed hard. Moreover, we also complained in our review about the lack of a Thunderbolt 4 port and an SD card reader.
That said, if you can sacrifice some performance, running the laptop in the “Quiet” mode can significantly reduce both the operating temps and the loud fans. Also, there are plenty of low-cost Type-C dongles on Amazon with an SD card reader.
Moving on to the qualities of the Lenovo LOQ 15IRX9, the laptop offers plenty of gaming performance thanks to the RTX 4060 and the Core i5-13450HX. Our performance measurements show that the laptop can play demanding games like Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty and Dragon’s Dogma 2 above 60 FPS at 1080p with max graphics.
Another talent of the Lenovo LOQ 15 is its 15.6-inch FHD IPS display that covers 100% sRGB, boasts decent contrast, and refreshes at 144 Hz. The panel comes factory calibrated, features Nvidia G-Sync, and Advanced Optimus.
Finally, the Lenovo LOQ 15 will also last you years, as you can comfortably upgrade the storage and RAM courtesy of two M.2 and two SO-DIMM slots, respectively.
