Moonlighter turns players into shopkeepers by day and monster hunters by night. The game is currently available completely free on Steam.

Beat up monsters, then sell the loot: Moonlighter constantly shifts between dungeon crawling and shop management - and many players love the combination. You play as Will, who runs a small shop in the quiet village of Rynoka during the day before venturing through mysterious portals into dangerous worlds at night. The game is now available completely free on Steam for the first time, dropping from around $20 to $0.

At night, players fight through procedurally generated dungeons, take on monsters and the occasional powerful boss, and fill their backpack with weapons, crafting materials, and rare artifacts. The game also features light roguelike elements: if you push your luck too far and die, you'll lose most of your loot. Combat plays out in real time and can be quite challenging, drawing comparisons to classic The Legend of Zelda games. Without well-timed dodges and carefully timed attacks, defeat comes quickly. A variety of weapon classes also encourages experimentation.

Back in the village, all those treasures end up in Will's own shop. Players set their own prices, while customers' reactions reveal whether an item is overpriced, underpriced, or just right. The money earned can be used to expand the shop, craft better equipment, and attract new businesses such as a blacksmith or potion shop to Rynoka. One mystery remains, however: when exactly does Will ever sleep?

The unusual mix also impressed Wccftech, which awarded the game an excellent 9.2 out of 10, praising the gameplay loop of fighting, looting, selling, and upgrading as highly addictive. The only criticisms were a few minor technical issues and repetitive journal entries. On Steam, Moonlighter holds 82% positive reviews from around 22,000 user ratings. Another plus for handheld gamers: the title is Steam Deck Verified.
