According to a new report from Alinea Analytics, Steam generated $11.1 billion in gross revenue in the second half of 2026, which is more than what the platform generated in all of 2020.

Steam remains the largest video game storefront in the world, and its growth has continued steadily year after year. The platform continues to attract more players, developers, game releases, and consumer spending, making it the dominant force in the PC gaming market. And according to recent data, Steam has now reached another major milestone by recording its highest-ever half-year revenue.

According to the latest data from Alinea Analytics, games on Steam generated an estimated $11.1 billion in gross revenue during the first half of 2026. This marks the strongest first six months in the platform’s history and highlights the continued growth of digital game spending on PC.

The reported $11.1 billion represents a 14.5% increase compared to the first half of 2025. More notably, it is also 8% higher than the second half of 2025, a period that typically benefits from major holiday sales and increased seasonal spending.

Alinea Analytics estimates that the platform’s full-year revenue grew from around $5.5 billion in 2017 to roughly $20 billion in 2025. Interestingly, the first half of 2026 alone generated more revenue than all of 2020, a year that saw a surge in game purchases as people spent more time indoors due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The report also highlights a shift in where Steam’s revenue is coming from. New game releases are accounting for a smaller share of total revenue. In H1 2024, games released that year contributed 29% to Steam’s revenue. In H1 2025, that share dropped to 27%. In H1 2026, newly released games accounted for just 21% of the revenue.

Among the top new games of 2026 by revenue, Forza Horizon 6 has generated approximately $197.7 million on Steam since launching less than two months ago. Resident Evil Requiem has earned around $194.5 million and sold 3.4 million copies on the platform. Crimson Desert has also performed strongly, bringing in just over $190 million since its release in March.
