Steam Machine: If Valve really does this, it would be a dream come true for many gamers

Gamers are dreaming that Valve could release a secret launch title alongside the Steam Machine. The idea is not entirely new, but with Valve’s living-room PC still expected in 2026, the topic has resurfaced on Reddit. For many fans, the ideal candidate would be obvious: a long-awaited third installment.
The reason is a long-running inside joke that Valve cannot count to three. None of the company’s major series has ever received an officially titled third entry. For many fans, the launch of the Steam Machine would therefore feel like the perfect moment for Half-Life 3, Portal 3, Dota 3, Team Fortress 3 or Counter-Strike 3. In typical Reddit fashion, users are wrapping the idea in puns such as “I’ve waited half my life for this” or “This would open up a portal to a whole new world for me.”
Realistically, it seems rather unlikely that the Steam Machine will actually launch with its own exclusive title. At the moment, there are no concrete indications. Since Valve’s living-room PC is expected to arrive in the coming months, such a game would likely have to be in a very advanced stage of development already – and if that were the case, leaks would probably have surfaced by now. Then again, Valve managed to keep Half-Life: Alyx secret until its official reveal. A Steam Machine launch title therefore cannot be ruled out completely.
If the dream does come true, fans see Half-Life 3 as the most likely candidate. No other game is so closely tied to Valve’s mythos. After all, there have already been some leaks surrounding Half-Life 3. For some Reddit users, the cherry on top would be a new “Orange Box” – a modern version of Valve’s 2007 bundle.
