Starlink Mini dish now available for purchase with $50/month satellite Internet roaming plan
After a few brief weeks of testing it with existing subscribers as an add-on, SpaceX has made the newest Starlink Mini Kit which fits in a backpack available for general purchase.
Previously, one had to already have a Starlink satellite Internet subscription in order to test its most compact dish out as a roaming service, but now it can be ordered by anybody.
Unfortunately, the Starlink Mini price remains $599, or $100 more than the Standard Kit that is now discounted even further in select regions.
SpaceX argues that Starlink Mini is meant for places where "connectivity has been unaffordable or completely unavailable." Elon Musk even tipped that in regions where those conditions are met, it will cost half of the Standard Kit retail price, or about $299.
The first Starlink Mini test market, however, is the US, which is hardly devoid of satellite Internet options, so the compact dish is out at the standard price of its larger sibling.
Unlike the Starlink Standard Kit that can be bought at places like Best Buy, however, the Starlink Mini set is only available from SpaceX at the moment.
The Mini dish comes with an integrated Wi-Fi router and, as if to soothe the price tag pain, Starlink is offering a new $50/month satellite Internet plan with it.
It only comes with 50GB of data, though, while for truly unlimited satellite Internet, one has to sign for the $150 roaming plan together with the Starlink Mini purchase.
