Starlink Mini appears at Best Buy at double the Standard Kit price in 28 states as Elon Musk shows it running off a Milwaukee battery
Elon Musk has reposted a video in which the new Starlink Mini Kit that fits in a backpack is running off of a Milwaukee tool battery in a corn field somewhere.
The Starlink Mini dish deployment took only a few minutes, and it hit about 140 Mbps satellite Internet download speed in the middle of nowhere sitting on the bed of a pickup truck.
SpaceX has released the compact Starlink Mini dish with integrated router to the public now, alongside an exclusive $50/month satellite Internet roaming plan.
When Elon Musk first teased Starlink Mini, he mentioned that it will cost about half of the price of the Starlink Standard Kit that at the time retailed for $599.
At launch, however, it's the Starlink Mini that is priced $599, while the Standard Kit costs $499 with a seemingly permanent $100 discount.
A further $200 promo in select 28 states brings its price to $299, or half of what the Mini Kit currently commands, says SpaceX:
In the United States & Canada, new orders in certain regions are eligible for a one-time savings in areas where Starlink has abundant network availability. This one-time savings will be applied to your Starlink kit price when ordering on Starlink.com, and if activated after purchasing from a retailer, a service credit for the listed amount below will be applied. The savings are only available for Residential Standard service in these designated regional savings areas.
States eligible for the $200 Starlink Kit discount
- Arizona
- California
- Colorado
- Connecticut
- Florida
- Hawaii
- Idaho
- Indiana
- Iowa
- Kansas
- Maine
- Maryland
- Massachusetts
- Nebraska
- Nevada
- New Hampshire
- New Jersey
- New Mexico
- New York
- North Dakota
- Oklahoma
- Oregon
- Pennsylvania
- Rhode Island
- South Dakota
- Utah
- Vermont
- Wyoming
In a sign of the increased general availability of the Starlink Mini Kit, the compact dish has now appeared at Best Buy, too, albeit at the same $599 price tag.
As its production and availability ramp up, the Mini dish price is likely to fall, though, since it now equals the non-promotional tag of the Standard Kit even in countries and regions "where connectivity has been unaffordable or completely unavailable," while it is supposed to cost "about half" there, as per Elon Musk's initial tease.
