Sony has announced its latest sales report for the PlayStation 4 (PS4). The company has reported that it moved just over 91.6 million units of the console worldwide during that period, as well as 876 PS4-compatible games. These figures apply to sales from 2013 up until December 31, 2018. For context, its last report on this subject, which covered data up to September 2018, showed that it had sold a total of 86 million units and 776 million games.
The 2018 holiday season (November 19 to December 31) accounted for 5.6 million of these console sales, and for 50.6 million of the game-copy sales. One of the most successful new games of this period was Marvel's Spiderman, which amassed over 9 million sales since its release on November 25, 2018. This report, as with its predecessor, did not differentiate between the PS4 and the newer PS4 Pro.
In addition, Sony Interactive Entertainment's CEO, John Kodera announced that the PlayStation Network had accumulated just over 90 million users as of November 2018. All in all, the PS4 appears to have had an exceptionally successful run in its five-year history. It is also possible that it may have at least one more, as the release of the console's next generation may be pushed back to as late as 2020.
