Evan Blass has been busy getting Sony fans in a tizzy lately. Not only has the famed leaker just posted renders of the Xperia 10 and 10 Plus, but now he has uploaded a new render of a smartphone that cuts a rather striking figure. Blass has called it the “Xperia 1,” which could mean that Sony has dropped any idea of using the XZ4 moniker. The device in the post does exhibit some of the rumored features of the XZ4: vertically aligned rear triple camera setup, tall and thin design language, and deep purple color.
Blass also let slip another detail about the Sony Xperia 1 that will likely put a smile on the face of any fan of the manufacturer’s smartphones. Previous rumored details about the smartphone’s display mentioned a Triluminos OLED (1440x3350). However, it now seems the forthcoming flagship smartphone will sport a much fancier 4K HDR OLED instead. If the Xperia 1 does end up wielding a 4K OLED, it will be the first smartphone to have such a display.
Considering there’s a reasonable chance Sony is going to heavily promote the “CinemaWide” capabilities of its upcoming smartphones, upgrading the screen of the Xperia 1 to a 4K HDR OLED will certainly encourage movie lovers to indulge in a purchase, so they can enjoy viewing their favorite films on Sony’s device. It seems it is the end of the Xperia XZ4, but in name only. Now we can look forward to what Sony will deliver with the Xperia 1.
