Earlier today, a Redditor discovered Amazon selling the Xperia 1 VIII in the UK. As we later discussed, it turns out that the retailer was offering the same smartphone with complimentary WH-1000XM6 headphones in Germany too (curr. $458 on Amazon).
For the time being, Sony has not commented on the whereabouts of a new Xperia 1 smartphone. Nonetheless, the apparent Xperia 1 VIII has already appeared on Geekbench across multiple listings. While Geekbench does not mention the device's retail name, the model number XQ-GE54 appeared in reference to the Xperia 1 VIII earlier this year.

Additionally, previous leaks indicate that the XQ-GE54 is the European version of the Xperia 1 VIII. On the one hand, these Geekbench listings suggest that Sony will continue to limit its flagship Xperia smartphone to 12 GB of RAM. For context, many of Sony's rivals now offer flagships smartphones with 16 GB of RAM and beyond.
On the other hand, the listings point to the Xperia 1 VIII featuring the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 with an Adreno 840 GPU, six Oryon Gen 3 Performance Cores and two Oryon Gen 3 Prime Cores clocked at 4.61 GHz. Unfortunately, the Xperia 1 VIII falls short of what we have come to expect from the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, with averages of 2,325 and 9,217 in Geekbench 6's single-core and multi-core benchmarks. We would not recommend drawing too many conclusions until retail units arrive, though.
