Sony RX10 V compact camera with a 25x zoom rumored to launch soon

The Sony RX10 IV, released in 2017, is finally set to get a successor after nine years. According to the latest information from SonyAlphaRumors, Sony will officially unveil the RX10 V on Thursday, July 9. However, this is reportedly just a modest upgrade. Sony is said to be equipping the camera primarily with a new processor that enables faster autofocus and better image processing.
In addition, the Sony RX10 V is expected to use the NP-FZ100 battery ($88 on Amazon), which offers more than twice the capacity of the NP-FW50 in the previous model, at 16.4 Wh. It’s also possible that Sony will incorporate a more modern USB-C port and update Wi-Fi 4 and Bluetooth 4.1 to more current standards. Essentially, however, the camera’s hardware is expected to remain unchanged. The Sony RX10 V is expected to feature the same 20.1-megapixel 1-inch CMOS sensor and a super-zoom lens as its predecessor.
This lens achieves a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 24 – 600 mm, offering a 25x optical zoom. This means that even in 2026, the RX10 V will still outperform all flagship smartphones when it comes to zoom range. The lens also supports a macro mode, allowing it to focus on objects as close as 3 centimeters. However, if Sony doesn’t provide any other upgrades to this nine-year-old camera, it will seem somewhat outdated. This is because the Sony RX10 IV can record 4K video at only 30 frames per second, the OLED viewfinder offers only 2.36 million dots, and the SD card reader supports only the outdated UHS-I standard.
