The Scry Arctic V2 is an external cooler that is plugged into the back of the Sony PlayStation 5 in order to cool the console with the help of three small fans and a heat sink. The manufacturer claims that the airflow is five times stronger and, as a result, temperatures are "30%" lower - more specific details or measured values are not given.
Scry can be used in both portrait and landscape format. White LED lighting is intended to provide a gamer look. Compared to the first-generation Scry, AI is supposedly on board for more intelligent fan control, which obviously comes as a response to the many complaints that the fans of the first model were far too loud, even though they were marketed as near-silent. However, as the PlayStation 5 already runs relatively quietly without an additional cooler and there are no known widespread problems with overheating PS5 consoles, a product like Scry offers limited added value.
Prices and availability
Scry Arctic V2 for the first iteration of the PS5, Arctic S for the PS5 Slim and Arctic Pro for the PS5 Pro are currently being funded on Kickstarter, where the cooler is offered as part of an "Early Bird" deal for $39, plus shipping and import sales tax. The project has already reached its goal, raising around $58,000 from 668 backers at the time of publication of this article.
As usual, there are risks involved in backing Kickstarter campaigns. As a look at the comments from the first-generation Scry Kickstarter campaign shows, some backers never received their cooler, while others complained that the fans were much louder than advertised. Due to the sheer number of comments from dissatisfied customers, the new campaign should also be viewed with caution.
