Sonos is reportedly preparing a compact new soundbar, codenamed Gambit, for a September launch. FCC filings point indicate that the device may well be a successor to the five-year-old Beam 2.

Sonos appears to be preparing a significant addition to its home theater lineup, with regulatory filings revealing a "wireless smart speaker" carrying model number S59 and the internal codename Gambit. Its dimensions closely mirror those of the second-generation Beam, which measures 25.6 inches wide and was launched back in 2021, suggesting that Sonos is finally releasing a successor model with the same compact form factor while upgrading the technology inside.

The US FCC paperwork reveals that the S59 supports Bluetooth and Wi-Fi across the 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz bands, representing a significant connectivity upgrade over the current Beam Gen 2. Aside from 2×2 MIMO operation, the regulatory documents reveal little else about the soundbar's audio hardware, with details such as drivers, Dolby Atmos implementation, HDMI connectivity and other features still unknown. Sonos is also keeping several FCC documents, including internal and external photographs, confidential until January 2027.

The new soundbar is expected to be part of a broader wave of Sonos hardware announcements. Bloomberg reports that the company is planning a September reveal, with the S59 likely to appear alongside other products, including the rumored Ace Ultra headphones.
