Sonos might launch a new pair of high-end headphones and slash the price of the Ace
A few months ago, the Sonos Ace launched as Sonos' first pair of headphones. Unfortunately, the premium pair of headphones, which cost $449, hasn't done as well as the company expected, and according to a new report, it is considering launching a new higher-end model.

The info comes from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. According to him, the Sonos Ace hasn't done very well, with Sonos only selling about 20,000 units last month. Previously, the same source had reported that the lukewarm reception of the headphones had caused Sonos to reduce its annual production plans for the headphones from 1 million units to just 100,000 units.
It isn't that the Sonos Ace (available on Amazon for $439) is a bad product. Actually, it has received generally positive reviews. However, a combination of the ill-fated Sonos app and the Ace's high price compared to rivals such as the Sony WH-1000XM5 (available for $399 on Amazon) may have contributed to its poor sales.
Sonos is said to be developing a new pair of headphones that will even be more premium than the Ace. The plan which is codenamed ''Roundhouse'' is still in the early stages of development and hasn't been cemented yet. Nevertheless, the plan involves launching a new pair of headphones for $450 while giving the Sonos Ace a permanent price cut that brings it down to $399.
While plans for a new pair of headphones less than a year after the Ace launched doesn't seem like a good idea, a permanent price cut for the Ace will surely be appreciated by Sonos fans as well as anyone that has their eyes set on them. The earlier that price change is carried out, the better, and with the holidays coming soon, it may even see a surge in sales.
Despite its troubles, Sonos has actually been busy. It recently announced the $999 Arc Ultra as its newest premium smart soundbar and the $799 Sub 4 wireless subwoofer. Both products are available for pre-order and will begin shipping on October 29.
