The well-known audio company Sonos had been planning a new product to take on the likes of Roku and Google Chromecast - however, it may have to delay the release of the brand-first product. The OEM is now reportedly shedding employees, not to mention the production of its inaugural Ace wireless headphones compared to in-house projections. The source of all this adversity is said to lie in the furore caused by what should have been a simple update to its smartphone app.

A pair of wireless headphones from Sonos might once have been thought of as be the ideal answer to the likes of the Bose QC Ultras or Apple AirPods Max.

The company originally believed that it would be making as many as 1 million units of the over-ear cans per year (or ~2,500 per day) - however, that number is down to ~250 units per day (or 10,000 per year at most) in actuality, according to Bloomberg tech correspondent Mark Gurman.

The journalist also claims that the OEM had intended to follow the Ace headphones up with 2 more new products. 1 of them is thought to be Sonos' own TV streaming device - possibly as a companion for the dedicated Beam soundbar (now $529 on Amazon).

It had once had a projected launch date of January 2025 - however, that might be March of the same year now, according to Gurman.

The brand has reportedly had to stall its hardware plans to deal with its software issues, having still not managed to resolve the issues with the latest version of its app, once famously panned as responsible for making existing Sonos products all but unusable in their users' homes.
