New mini PC arrives with up to 96 GB DDR5 RAM and 24-core desktop-class Intel CPU

Shuttle has introduced yet another entrant to its XPC slim lineup of capable mini PCs, dubbed the DB860. Spotted by LinuxGizmos, the new mini PC boasts support for powerful desktop-class CPUs with active cooling housed in a relatively compact chassis.
Shuttle DB860: Mini PC with support for 24-core desktop CPUs
The XPC Slim DB860 mini PC features support for the LGA1851 socket, allowing it to be powered by desktop-class Intel Arrow Lake-S CPUs. However, its compact enclosure allows for CPUs with a maximum TDP of 65 watts, thereby excluding high-end unlocked CPUs such as the Core Ultra 9 285K.
The vanilla Core Ultra 9 285 should be supported, and the same applies to the Core Ultra 5 225, Core Ultra 7 265, and other 65-watt Arrow Lake-S parts. The highest-end Core Ultra 285 CPU sports a 24-core setup, allowing for impressive multicore performance. Compared to the 285K, the 285 should be around 11% or so slower.

Memory, storage, and I/O options are perfectly admirable
Memory requirements will be taken care of by up to 96 GB of DDR5-5600 RAM courtesy of dual SODIMM slots. There is no option for discrete GPUs, which is to be expected from a mini PC that is just 1.35-liters in volume. The 19 x 16.5 x 43 cm or 7.4 x 6.5 x 17 inch metal chassis is quite compact as mentioned earlier, and should easily fit inside tight spaces.
The I/O on offer is very respectable, which is to be expected from a Shuttle product:
- Triple USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, four USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A
- Single USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, USB4 (with DP 1.4a and 3A charging)
- 2.5G, 1G Ethernet
- HDMI 2.1, HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.4a
- Dual RS232 serial port
- Audio in/out
Storage is handled by an M.2 2280M slot with support for PCIe 5.0 x 4 and a 2.5-inch SATA III drive bay. The DB860 mini PC also sports an M.2 2230 slot, allowing WiFi and Bluetooth functionality via add-on cards. Customers who require cellular connectivity can also opt for an LTE module.
Pricing details for the Shuttle XPC Slim DB860 mini PC are under wraps for now, and are likely to only be revealed to interested customers based on order volume. Typical day-to-day consumers with modest requirements might be better off with something like the GMKtec K16, currently available with a 34% discount on Amazon.
