Japanese watchmaker Seiko has just launched two brand-new Seiko 5 Sports limited-edition watches in collaboration with Pepsi, which are scheduled to release in September this year. Limited to 7,000 units each, the models - SRPL99 and SSK047 - come with Pepsi branding.
The SRPL99 borrows the retro aesthetic of the 1990s Pepsi logo and the Seiko 5 Sports heritage line. It features a 38mm stainless steel case with a three-fold clasp and screw-down see-through caseback. Inside is the Caliber 4R36 automatic movement with day/date display, stop-seconds, and a 41-hour power reserve. The white dial contrasts nicely with a red-and-blue bezel and blue accents, which is a direct reference to the classic Pepsi logo and can design. The overall build, at 12.1mm thick and 142g in weight, looks to be compact yet premium enough for versatile use-cases.
On the other hand, the SSK047 is a GMT model powered by the Caliber 4R34, with dual-time display via a 24-hour hand. It uses a 42.5mm stainless steel case with a black hard coating, silicone strap, and see-through screw-down caseback. This model weighs 106g and is slightly thicker at 13.6mm. It also sports modern Pepsi branding in a black-blue-red color scheme, with "Pepsi" embossed into the strap and the logo placed at the 6 o’clock tip. This is also the first SKX-style GMT Seiko 5 to utilize a silicone band.
Both models will ship in custom packaging shaped like Pepsi cans. At first look, the SRPL99 has more retro cues, while the SSK047 adopts a more contemporary, blacked-out design. Through its use of unique strap materials and GMT functionality, the SSK047 is the sportier sibling in the new lineup, while the SRPL99 features a more classic diver-inspired blueprint.
