Samsung launches two flagship tablets with 120 Hz AMOLED screens and Dimensity 9500

Samsung has officially introduced the Galaxy Tab S12 series, consisting of the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra and Galaxy Tab S12+, with the regular Galaxy Tab S12 getting sidelined again. Both tablets stick to MediaTek SoCs, as has been the case with the past few Galaxy Tab S SKUs. This time, it uses the Dimensity 9500 chipset and adds new cooling hardware.

The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra remains the larger of the pair, with a 14.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a resolution of 2,800 x 1,752 pixels and up to 120 Hz refresh rate. Samsung has managed to shrink the tablet to just 5.1 mm thick, making it the company's thinnest Galaxy Tab to date. It weighs 692 g in Wi-Fi form and 695 g with 5G. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Tab S12+ uses a smaller 12.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a 2,960 x 1,848 resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. It measures 5.3 mm thick and weighs 553 g or 555 g, depending on connectivity. Both displays can reach a claimed 1,600 nits of peak brightness and 1,000 nits in high-brightness mode.

The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra comes with up to 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage, while the Galaxy Tab S12+ tops out at 12 GB and 512 GB. Battery capacities stand at 11,600 mAh and 10,600 mAh, respectively, with 45 W charging supported on both. Samsung rates the Ultra for up to 23 hours of continuous use and the Plus for up to 21 hours. A full charge is said to take roughly 95 minutes with a compatible 45 W adapter. The company also hasn't abandoned expandable storage, with both models accepting microSD cards up to 2 TB.

Lastly, the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra supports Wi-Fi 7 and features 13 MP and 8 MP rear cameras, whereas the Tab S12+ is limited to Wi-Fi 6E and a single 13 MP rear camera. Both get Bluetooth 6.0, 5G variants with nano-SIM and eSIM support, quad speakers, IP68 certification, an in-display fingerprint sensor and a bundled S Pen. It is important to note that the stylus does not support Bluetooth Low Energy. You do, however, get pogo-pin connectors at the back to connect an external keyboard. 

Samsung ships the Galaxy Tab S12+ and Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra with Android 17 and One UI 9. Galaxy AI features are joined by a six-month Google AI Pro trial. Adobe Photoshop also comes pre-installed and includes a four-month trial of the mobile subscription. Samsung is also promising up to seven major Android/One UI upgrades and seven years of security updates. The Galaxy Tab S12 series will go on sale in selected markets from October 7 in Gray and Silver.
