New information about the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 FE has emerged via a Geekbench listing. It will run a MediaTek Kompanio 900T chipset, 4 GB of RAM and Android 13 out of the box.

Evidence about Samsung working on a cheaper version of its popular Galaxy Tab S8 series emerged back in 2021. Little more was known about it other than its name, the Galaxy Tab S8 FE, and that it would feature a TFT panel. The tablet does not have a release date yet. Samsung will probably launch it without much fanfare in the coming weeks. Now, Galaxyclub.nl has uncovered yet another piece of the puzzle via a Geekbench listing.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 FE scored 773 and 2,318 in Geekbench's single and multi-threaded tests, respectively. It packs 4 GB of RAM, runs Android 13 and is codenamed SM-8506B. A cursory glance at its specs confirms that a MediaTek Kompanio 900T chipset is at the helm, complete with two Cortex-A78 and six-Cortex A55 cores. It confirms that Samsung plans to launch only a 5G enabled variant of the Galaxy Tab S8 FE, unlike its predecessor, the Galaxy Tab S7 FE, which came in both 4G (Snapdragon 778G) and 5G (Snapdragon 750G) flavours.

This time around, the Galaxy Tab S8 FE faces intense competition in the US$500/€500 segment from the recently launched Lenovo Tab P11 Pro 2nd-gen. Not only does it have a 120 Hz OLED screen, but also a beefier MediaTek Kompanio 1300T SoC. It even takes a page out of Samsung's playbook by allowing the tablet to double up as a secondary display via a USB-C cable. Then again, the Galaxy Tab S8 FE has the "ecosystem" advantage and can fit right in with other Samsung smartphones, smartwatches, headphones, etc.
