Reviews for the Samsung 900X3B-A01
A Timeless Design. We didn't think Samsung could do it, but they have managed to turn an already superthin design even thinner and lighter. Has performance and quality suffered along the way? We find out here in our in-depth review of the 2nd generation 13.3-inch Series 9.

The only real problem I can see is with hard disc space after various small deductions for things like Office Starter which is in its own hidden partition, Hibernation area and a Recovery section the space available on the ‘C’ drive is a tad under 93GB and 35GB of that is already used, so you have available only 57.4GB of hard disc space.

Thanks to the 1.6GHz Intel Core i5 processor and 4GB of RAM, the 900X3B is more than fast enough for most everyday tasks. The memory can't be upgraded beyond 4GB though. 4GB is enough for now, but it may be a problem in future as software tends to become more memory intensive.

Although it's not marketed under Intel's Ultrabook branding, Samsung's new Series 9 900X3B laptop is an Ultrabook in all but name. The pricy Samsung Series 9 900X3B isn't perfect, but it's currently the best Windows alternative to the Apple Macbook Air thanks to its superb build quality, good screen and reasonably long battery life.

If you want a slim, light and stylish notebook with a high quality, high resolution display then the 13-inch Samsung Series 9 must be on your shortlist. If you value the display above everything else, then there’s very little competition. However, achieving the slim and light form factor has necessitated some compromises, particularly the below-average battery capacity and the congested ports, many of which need dongles, while Samsung are charging a premium to the users who value this notebook’s attributes. Performance is below average but is still more than adequate for most applications.

Samsung's Series 9 continues to serve as an indication of what tomorrow's computers will offer; strong performance, ultra-fast responsiveness and lush visuals in an exquisitely-thin and luxuriously-crafted form factor. This is, quite simply, the most beautiful laptop we've experienced and only in person will you get a true feel for how impossibly thin and light it really is.

More than anything, the 15-inch Series 9 makes us giddy about what laptops will look like a year from now. After all, if the original Series 9 foretold a market full of skinny Ultrabooks, might this machine be a harbinger for other larger-screened Ultrabooks with fast performance and extra long battery life?

There’s no doubt that the Samsung Series 9 900X3B is a portable PC which will appeal more to style conscious web surfers than power hungry power users. Like the MacBook Air, however, we can forgive the Series 9 these shortcomings. It’s a slick product, and the root of our affections extend beyond lab tests and number crunching.

Despite its weaknesses, the Series 9 is a bewitching prospect: the combination of beauty, burly build and a class-leading display are enough to set anyone’s credit card twitching. And you’ve got to hand it to Samsung: the pricing is bold at £100 dearer than a comparable MacBook Air, and £200 more than the Asus Zenbook UX31E.

The Samsung Series 9 900X3B is not just the thinnest, lightest 13in laptop in the world, but it’s also the best-looking, best sounding ultraportable we’ve come across. Its high-resolution PLS screen offers quality above any other laptop display on the market, its connectivity isn’t compromised by its sleek lines, and it’s great to use too with an excellent backlit keyboard and large, sensitive touchpad. Weighed against all this goodness, the 900X3B’s average battery life seems a minor downer, and overall Samsung’s latest ultraportable is worth every penny of its premium price.

This is a beautiful computer, a luxury option and a suitable alternative to a MacBook Air. Of course it's expensive, good things are.

Ultrabook it may not be but nevertheless, we're ultra impressed. If you can afford it, this laptop should be right at the top of your priority list. Narrowly missing out on a nomination for the TrustedReviews Awards 2011 powered by Duracell, could the Samsung Series 9 900X3B make the shortlist for next year's awards? The new Series 9, the Samsung Series 9 900X3B, is not something that the Korean giant has chosen to label an Ultrabook. Specs-wise it is one, but the only conclusion we can draw is that is that "ultra" doesn't cover it. It's better than that.

Series:
At the Beginning of 2011, Samsung introduced the Series 9 with two new devices, which celebrated their debut at the Consumer Electronics Show 2011 in Las Vegas, shortly CES. Simultaneously Samsung has begun to change the series-discriptions and their sorting. In addition to the Ultra-Thin Series 9, Samsung provides the Series 2, 3 (B2C), 4 and 6 for Business-Notebooks, the Series 5 for devices with Google Chrome OS and also the new Series 7 Chronos plus Series 7 Gamer for multimedia- respectively gaming-users.
Back to Samsungs Series 9: After the introduction of the Samsung Series 9 900X3A (13.3 inch) and the smaller 900X1B Subnotebook (11.6 inch) the hype was relatively large, because apparently they seem to be the first available alternative to Apples MacBook Air series, which runs on Apples Mac OS X. High-quality displays and a chassis made of lightweight and sturdy Duraluminium are two key-assets of Samsung Series 9 devices. In comparison to the german retail-market, Samsung provides both devices to their US-Costumers from the beginning. The MSRP located between 1199.99 and 1649.99 US-Dollar.
Major advantages in our reviews of the Samsung Series 9 900X3A and 900X1B are the good battery life, the rapid SSD storage, the convincing display, the LED-Backlit keyboard and furthermore the attractive design. Disadvantages are the limited expandability, the port-positioning, the missing dockingport and the long battery charge time. On average, the review-ratings are above 80 percent and thereby in a good rating range.

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.

76.43%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
