The Samsung Odyssey G9 (G95C) is a 49-inch ultrawide gaming monitor that features an incredible 32:9 aspect ratio, effectively giving you the screen real-estate and 5,120 × 1,440-pixel resolution of two 27-inch QHD monitors side-by-side — all without any gaps or bezels between the screens. It's easy to see how a display format like this could be great for productivity and gaming, but size isn't the only thing the Odyssey G9 has going for it. 

For the duration of the limited-time Amazon deal, the Samsung Odyssey G9 (G95C) is discounted by a substantial 23%, from $999.99 to $769.99. 

While the Odyssey G95C doesn't have quite the deep blacks of its OLED counterparts, being a VA panel, it does feature a VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification, which essentially guarantees a peak brightness of 1,000 nits in small areas of the screen. According to the VESA standard, this means that the monitor can produce up to 1,000 nits peak brightness in brief flashes across the screen and sustain up to 1,000 nits in an 8% window. As for sustained brightness, Samsung claims that the G9 can deliver up 450 nits, with 360 nits being a minimum. 

As for gaming features, the G95C has a 240 Hz refresh rate paired with AMD FreeSync Premium Pro for smooth, tear-free gaming, even when frame rates drop. The Odyssey G9 als has features like picture-by-picture and picture-in-picture, which can simulate a multi-monitor setup with separate inputs for different portions of the screen. 

Colour accuracy is also excellent on the Odyssey G95C, with 92% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour space and a factory calibration certificate explaining the monitor's shortfalls. This, and the lack of concern for burn-in, makes the Odyssey G95C a pretty solid choice for workstation and creative use, even when colour critical work is a concern. 

Thanks to its 32:9 ultrawide aspect ratio, the Samsung G95C features a 1000R curve, which may be aggressive to some but should serve to reduce head movement to keep on-screen content consistently sized.
