Asus' new ExpertBook PM3 is an affordable office laptop with a modern AMD processor (Ryzen AI 7 350, Zen 5). Thanks to the powerful NPU, the laptop also gets Microsoft's Copilot+ certification and supports all enhanced AI functions for Windows. Asus also includes additional AI tools (like transcribing meetings, summarizing, watermarks for conferences, etc.), which are combined in the so called ExpertPanel. Fortunately, Asus does not install any unnecessary bloat ware.
In addition to the modern processor, the price of €979 also includes an aluminum chassis with plenty of ports (but no USB 4.0) as well as a comfortable keyboard. The battery runtime is sufficient, the stereo speakers sound surprisingly good (not only for an office laptop) and you have comprehensive maintenance options. If you add another RAM module, you can also play some games with the Radeon 860M after work.
The only real drawback is the display, because our review unit was equipped with a simple IPS screen with the Full-HD resolution, low color gamut and 60 Hz. Whether this display is okay also depends on the time you work on the internal screen. If you primarily use a large external screen most of the time, the base display should be fine, but there is also a 2.5K IPS screen with full sRGB gamut and 144 Hz if you primarily use the internal screen.
Asus does not cut corners in terms of warranty, because a three-year warranty is included by default. The competition from Lenovo and HP often comes with a one- or two-year warranty in this price range. You also get Windows 11 Professional as well as a five-year update warranty for the software as well as the BIOS. All in all, the new ExpertBook PM3 is a good overall package and a good alternative for devices like the ThinkPad E14.
