Retro compact camera launches with xenon flash and optical viewfinder in 93g body

Yashica was once known for high-quality analog 35 mm and medium-format cameras. Although the corporation that owns the brand name today has nothing in common with the original camera manufacturer, the Yashica Y16 aims to draw on the brand's history, as the compact camera was inspired by the Y16 from 1959.
The camera is certainly compact, as its body measures just 91 x 45 x 29 millimeters and weighs 93 grams. The rear houses both an optical viewfinder and a tiny 1.45-inch display, while the front features the lens and a xenon flash with three adjustable power levels. As is typical of Yashica, the technology is rather basic, as the camera combines a 12-megapixel sensor with an f/12 lens with a 35mm-equivalent focal length of 27 mm.
While the image quality should be better than that of the Kodak Charmera ($35 on Amazon), as the manufacturer's sample photos show, the Yashica Y16 is clearly a toy camera. At least the camera can also record video clips. Yashica offers the camera in seven colors: Green, Orange, Red, Baby Blue, Baby Pink, Butter Yellow and Black.
