Christmas has come early for Xiaomi. Recent reports claimed that the company had received over 100,000 pre-orders of the recently launched Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G. That was impressive by itself but Xiaomi has gone a step further by announcing some even more scintillating sales numbers.
According to a post by Xiaomi boss Lu Weibing on Weibo, the company sold over 300,000 units of the new Redmi Note 9 phones yesterday. For those who missed the launch, Xiaomi unveiled three new devices in the series: the Redmi Note 9 4G, Redmi Note 9 5G, and Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G. It's a bit weird since there already was a Redmi Note 9 with full 4G capability released way earlier in the year, but this strategy appears to be working for Xiaomi if these sales figures are anything to go by.
The Redmi Note 9 4G starts at CNY 999, the Redmi Note 9 5G costs CNY 1,299, and the Redmi Note 9 Pro 5G begins at CNY 1,599. That makes for an average of CNY 1,299. Or right about US$198. It's easy to say that Xiaomi made something in the region US$59.4 million from day one sales of the three new devices. Business booms, it appears.
