MIUI 12.5 rumoured to arrive soon with multiple changes from MIUI 12
Xiaomi has only recently announced that it has upgraded over 30 devices globally to MIUI 12, but there is already a rumour that it has switched its development onto a new version of its custom OS. According to a post on Xiaomi & MIUI News, Xiaomi will soon commence beta testing MIUI 12.5 in China. Apparently, the company will suspend beta testing for a week from December 14 to prepare initial MIUI 12.5 builds, which will probably arrive on flagship Mi and Redmi smartphones first.
There has been no official reveal of what MIUI 12.5 will offer or how it differs from MIUI 12. However, there are rumours that it will provide improved privacy settings, including informing apps the approximate location of a device, not the actual one. Additionally, MIUI 12.5 will reputedly introduce several animation changes to the default launcher and power menu, among others, along with a redesigned volume menu and Cleaner app. Additionally, the option to convert and screenshot to a PDF will be added, as will an overhauled notification centre. Adimorah Blog believes that Xiaomi will include a desktop mode in MIUI 12.5, too.
From what we can tell, the likes of Adimorah Blog and Tehnofan have determined that these features will be added to MIUI 12 based on features Xiaomi is currently trialling in MIUI 12 beta builds. Hence, Xiaomi could well be planning to integrate more features in MIUI 12.5, while some of those found in present beta builds may not make the cut. It is currently unclear when MIUI 12.5 will arrive, but we should probably know more before the end of the month. Ultimately though, MIUI 12.5 smells much like One UI 2.5, which Samsung brought to many of its smartphones earlier this year.
