Raspberry Pi 3B-based mini laptop impresses with its 4-inch touchscreen and gaming ability
Raspberry Pi single-board computers have been cropping up in countless interesting gadgets and gizmos, but a mini laptop created by Igor Brkić based on one of these popular boards has to be one of the most impressive-looking devices built. The talented tinkerer used a Raspberry Pi 3B+ model that was slimmed-down for the project. For instance, the RPi 3 Model B+ usually sports four USB 2.0 ports, but the RPi laptop had to settle for just one.
As mentioned above, a battery from a Xiaomi powerbank was used in the RPi project and the builder also utilized a small Bluetooth-enabled keyboard. For the display, a Pimoroni HyperPixel 4 touchscreen was selected that offers wide viewing angles (IPS) and a decent 800x480 resolution. The bright red case for the pocket RPi laptop was created with a 3D printer.
The finished product, which is smaller (but much chunkier) than a smartphone, looks like it has been professionally made for the mass market. It’s not the first mini laptop made with a Raspberry Pi single-board computer at its heart, but it’s received a positive response from RPi enthusiasts and is another good example of the versatility of the inexpensive board.
