Anbernic has announced the RG406V, a new 4-inch gaming handheld that builds on last year's RG405V. Based on early teasers, the Anbernic RG406V features a better display than its predecessor, as well as a faster chipset that should be capable of emulating PS2 games at up to 1.5x native resolution.

Anbernic is pushing ahead with another retro gaming handheld, despite having only released the RG40XX V (curr. $94.99 on Amazon) at the beginning of last week. Nonetheless, the company has now moved onto the RG406V, an apparent direct successor to the RG405V. As usual, Anbernic has not provided full release details of specifications yet.

Instead, it has outlined emulation performance and a few specifications in a detailed teaser video. In short, it seems as though the RG406V builds on its predecessor in three areas. On the one hand, Anbernic has included a sharper IPS display, which outputs at 720p (960 x 720) across a 4-inch diagonal. On the other hand, Anbernic claims that the RG406V can emulate PS2 games at 1.5x native resolution.

In other words, the device will feature a more powerful chipset than the Unisoc Tiger T618 that Anbernic afforded the RG405V. Unfortunately, other details in this regard remain unknown for now; we would not be surprised if Anbernic borrowed the Tiger T820 from the RG Cube and RG556, though. Additionally, the RG406V boasts RGB backlit joysticks and should be available in three colour options. Presumably, Anbernic will release the RG406V later this month, although it has not confirmed as much yet.
