QNAP Products unveiled a new Thunderbolt 3 NAS yesterday. Available in two variants and dubbed TVS-1582TU, this storage accessory uses a 19-inch rack-mountable form factor that makes it a great choice for operating in moving vehicles and outdoor media editing environments.

The TVS-1582TU comes with four Thunderbolt 3 ports, as well as two 10 GbE ports. The models available are these:

  • TVS-1582TU-i5-16G: Intel Core i5-7500, 16 GB DDR4 RAM
  • TVS-1582TU-i7-32G: Intel Core i7-7700, 32 GB DDR4 RAM

In both cases, the amount of memory can be expanded to 64 GB. QNAP TVS-1582TU also features one HDMI out with [email protected] Hz support, four USB 3.0, and four USB 2.0 ports, being able to use up to nine 3.5-inch and six 2.5-inch hard drives. To further expand its internal storage space, it can be used in conjunction with up to six Thunderbolt expansion enclosures (TX-800P or TX-500P) or a QNAP USB one (UX-1200U-RP, UX-800U-RP, UX-800P or UX-500P). Virtual JBOD support is also present.

QNAP's TVS-1582TU-i5-16G and TVS-1582TU-i7-32G are both available for purchase via the company's network of authorized resellers worldwide. As usual, the price and availability details might be different, depending on the location and the quantity acquired.

Although I have been writing about new software and hardware for almost a decade, I consider myself to be old school. I always enjoy listening to music on CD or tape instead of digital files and I will not even get into the touchscreen vs physical keys debate. However, I also enjoy new technology, as I now have the chance to take a look at the future every day. I joined the Notebookcheck crew back in 2013 and I have no plans to leave the ship anytime soon.
