Evo-X1 mini PC: Powerful AMD Ryzen 9 "Strix Halo" APU for CPU-intensive workflows
The AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 APU powering the Evo-X1 gaming mini PC is quite the multicore monster, promising performance that is around 30% faster than the Ryzen 7 7840HS APU found in many mini PCs. Even the Core Ultra 9 285H CPU is left behind by a few percentage points. Clearly, the majority of CPU-heavy workloads will not be a hassle for the system.
Unsurprisingly, the mini PC lacks physical room for dedicated GPUs. The RDNA 3.5-based Radeon 890M is far from a powerhouse, but should be capable enough to handle lightweight 1080p gaming and occasional video editing. Compared to the Radeon 780M, the 890M is roughly 21% faster according to our testing.
That said, folks who require more graphical grunt can utilize the OCuLink port for speedy eGPU setups.
Our in-depth review of the Evo-X1 mini PC reveals very few downsides, although the lack of upgradeable RAM may be a deal-breaker for many people. The storage, courtesy of dual M.2 2280 slots, is easily user-accessible. We did find the cooling system to be on the louder side, which is not that surprising considering the tiny footprint of the system.
We did not face any issues pertaining to sustained performance, with the gaming mini PC performing consistently over a dozen or so Cinebench runs. The I/O on offer is decent, and has been detailed below:
- USB 4
- Dual USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, dual USB 2.0 Type-A
- Dual 2.5G Ethernet
- HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 2.1
- 3.5 mm audio combo jack
- OCuLink
At its current price on Amazon, the GMKtec Evo-X1 gaming mini PC undoubtedly offers a lot of value, when the current RAM and storage prices are kept in mind. Folks with CPU-intensive workflows who do not mind having to resort to eGPU setups for respectable graphics performance will most likely be quite satisfied with the system.
