Deal | Playstation 5 compatible 1 TB Western Digital WD Black SN750 SE NVMe SSD now shipping for $99 USD
PCIe4 NVMe SSDs were shockingly expensive when they first became available earlier this year. Fast-forward to the tail-end of 2021 and prices have now steadily declined to more affordable levels. The 1 TB Western Digital SN750 SE, for example, can now he found online for under $100 USD just in time for the Holiday shopping season.
Sequential read and write rates for the aforementioned WD drive max out at only 3600 MB/s and 2830 MB/s, respectively, compared to 3430 MB/s and 3000 MB/s on the 1 TB PCIe3 WD SN750. When considering that many PCIe4 drives like the Acer Predator GM7000 can reach speeds of over 7000 MB/s, the SN750 SE is one of the slower drives in its category. Nonetheless, Digital Foundry has already proven that the SN750 SE should be compatible with the Playstation 5 without any major performance losses.
Not included with the SN750 SE is a heat sink. While it's possible to use the drive without one, a heat sink is recommended to extend the life of the drive. It's strange that the the manufacturer includes a heat sink for its PCIe3 SN750 series but none for its PCIe4 SN750 SE series.
Newegg is expected to reduce the price of the 1 TB SN750 SE by $5 USD on November 26 if stock won't be depleted by then.
