Panasonic introduced the Toughpad FZ-M1 tablet back in January and now it has just been confirmed that this rugged 7-inch tablet will finally go on sale in the United States later this month. A rather expensive device, the FZ-M1 is not a device for the average consumer as it aims mainly at professionals who need to use it in the field where the tablet may get wet, dusty, or suffer drops and vibrations.

The base version of the Panasonic Toughpad FZ-M1 has the following specs and features:

  • Processor: Intel Celeron N2807
  • Memory/Storage: 4 GB RAM; 64 GB eMMC internal storage (128 GB and 256 GB SSD options available)

  • Cameras: 720p front, 5 MP back with autofocus and LED light
  • Connectivity: Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC7260 Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, USB 3.0, micro SDXC card slot
  • Operating system: Windows 8.1 with Bing 64-bit
  • Weight/Thickness: 1.2 pounds; 0.71-inch
  • Durability standards: MIL-STD-810G-compliant for protection from drops, shock, vibration, humidity, altitude and extreme temperatures, as well as IP65 fully sealed fanless design

This tablet "is backed by the industry's most comprehensive 3-year warranty and U.S.-based customer support" and starts at $1,299 USD for the base configuration mentioned above. A Toughpad model with 4th generation Intel Core i5 processor and increased memory and storage can be already purchased for $2,099 USD, while the Intel Celeron-powered FZ-M1 will be available later this month.
