PINE64 has started selling the Star64, its RISC-V-based single-board computer (SBC). Available in 4 GB or 8 GB of RAM variants, the PINE64 Star64 comes with plenty of I/O and should be about as powerful as competing Rockchip RK3566-powered SBCs.

PINE64, which recently introduced the PineTab2 and PineTab-V, has started selling a new RISC-V-based single-board computer (SBC). Announced last year, the Star64 relies on the StarFive JH7110 SoC, which PINE64 says should match the performance of something like the Rockchip RK3566. For reference, the latter contains four ARM Cortex-A55 CPU cores and a Mali-G52 GPU.

In comparison, the StarFive JH7110 utilises four SiFive FU740 CPU cores clocked at 1.5 GHz. As Liliputing notes, there is less software written for RISC-V processors than for their ARM counterparts. Hence, Rockchip RK3566-based SBCs may prove more versatile for the time being.

The Star64 costs US$70 with 4 GB of RAM or US$90 with 8 GB of RAM. PINE64 adds that the SBC supports Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6 connectivity, as well as i2C, SPI and UART through its GPIO pins. Additionally, the SBC has a PCIe x1 slot, three USB 2.0 Type-A ports, twin Gigabit Ethernet connections and an HDMI port. Please see PINE64's website for more details.
