PC release date for BattleTech announced
The original BattleTech (now known as Classic BattleTech) was a table-top wargame that was released in 1984. The board-game inspired a number of expansions, books, video games and even a TV series. Older gamers with long memories might remember the first video game in the series: MechWarrior (1989). Now it’s time for the latest installment in the famous series to come to fruition. BattleTech, a turn-based strategy game featuring the all-important giant fighting vehicles, should be released on April 24.
BattleTech has been partially funded by a Kickstarter campaign. Harebrained Schemes received over US$2.78 million from 41,733 backers to help the company develop and polish the game, with additional funds being saved for post-launch additional content. The game will be published by Paradox Interactive, a Swedish company that has been involved in games such as the Hearts of Iron series and the Europa Universalis titles.
Gameplay for BattleTech is set in the 3025 Succession Wars era; a noble requires help regaining her throne and players can assist her for either honor or financial reward. Naturally, being able to control the huge advanced-warfare Battlemechs is the main selling point of the series. Promotional videos for the new game seem promising in terms of graphics achievement and style.
Recommended system requirements for the title include a GeForce GTX 670 or Radeon R9 285 (2 GB VRAM), 16 GB RAM and an Intel Core i5-4460 or AMD FX 4300.
