The HTC U11 Life is set to receive its first taste of Oreo today. The device was launched on November 2 alongside the U11+, with HTC promising users that they would get Oreo in the near future—no surprise, considering it launched under Google's Android One umbrella. A tweet by Mo Versi, VP of Project Mangement at HTC has claimed that the mid-ranger will receive Oreo later in the day.
The U11 actually received its Oreo update a few days ago, so it looks like HTC worked on software for both devices simultaneously. Like the U11, however, only unlocked US versions of the device will receive the update, although we expect carrier versions to receive theirs soon. Users in Europe may have to wait for a while to get theirs, though.
The U11 Life was launched on Nougat, which is a bit baffling considering the fact that it was released over two months after Android Oreo. Treble is mandatory for devices released on Oreo, but we'll not be surprised if the Oreo update doesn't have Treble implemented, as the U11 update didn't.
