Orange Pi 5 Pro: New single-board computer with high AI performance offers a number of possibilities and 8K image output

The Orange Pi 5 Pro is a new single-board computer with extensive features and relatively high computing power. The SoC installed is the Rockchip RK3588S, which has four Cortex A76 and four Cortex A55 cores. The SoC not only has an integrated ARM Mali-G610 video accelerator, but also an NPU, which is said to provide AI computing power of up to 6 TOPs, allowing corresponding AI applications to run optimally. This offers advantages for demanding tasks such as image recognition, for example.

Depending on the model variant selected, the LPDDR5 RAM measures 4, 8 or 16 GB. Optional eMMC memory modules are supported, and a microSD card can also be used, as is usual for single-board computers. NVMe or SATA SSDs can be installed in the M.2 Key M slot. USB ports are available and additional ones can be accessed via headers.

Two HDMI outputs are available, one for HDMI 2.1 and the other for HDMI 2.0, which  means that 8K image material can be output at a refresh rate of 60 Hz. There are also MIPI ports, which can be used to connect cameras. A network connection is also optionally possible via Ethernet, optionally with a header and also with PoE, in which case the Orange Pi 5 Pro receives power via Ethernet and not USB-C. WiFi 5 and Bluetooth are supported. Lastly, the 89 x 56 millimeter board has the usual GPIO pin header.

The Orange Pi 5 Pro board is currently not yet available. A possible alternative could be the Raspberry Pi 5.
